Financial Impact of Childhood Cancer

Childhood Cancer Infographic
This second-year infographic poster project was aimed at adults and parents in order to create awareness of the financial burden of childhood cancer, both locally and globally. Given the topic of finances, this poster focuses on the mounting and interlinked facts on the cost of childhood cancer. Using the metaphor of different housing and buildings to convey the facts researched stacked on top of one another takes inspiration from the children's book 'Sky High' by Germano Zullo. The result is an infographic featuring two cities each representing their own local and global information respectively. The infographic design makes use of the gold colour found on the childhood cancer ribbon as well as playful and quirky drawings mixed with digitally designed statistics in order to create an in-depth mixed media infographic with a purpose.

Through this infographic, I hope to educate the world on the strain and devastation childhood cancer causes the families, whether we have children or not. The end goal is to also create a fun and interesting infographic that stands out on its own.

The mapping out of information relevant to each building before the final infographic.
These mockups serve to show the process I travelled through in order to reach the final infographic. There was much improvement to make in order to create an informative and responsible infographic that married the brief with my own personal style. In the beginning, I had difficulties finding which style to go with and how to best execute it, but as the creative process unfolded, I seemed to find the perfect precedent style and work quite comfortably in it which allowed me to become more experimental with my illustrations. If you have any feedback on this process in any way, please don't hesitate to share them.
Overall, the most unexpected style was followed with all the information staying truthful and sourced from reliable groups or studies. The brief asked for an infographic showcasing the cost of childhood cancer, paired with an advert for St. Jude's hospital which was delivered along with an exploration into different illustrative styles. However, a project is never truly perfect and there will always be room for improvement.
